Read all the Books – aka Why I’m not on Hoarders

*Warning this post has MATH

If it wasn’t for digital books my house would be on “Hoarders“.  In the last 5 years I have read over 200 books.  While some of those were the nicely cheap $0.99 ones on Amazon, the rest were your average $7.99. The math right now has my habit at around $300+ a year on books.

Saving my budget as of last year though is Amazons (I like to call them Amazin!) Kindle Unlimited service. $10 a month and unlimited (limited to specific books) reading.

The selection is decent. They don’t have ALL the books but enough that my penchant for procrastination via literacy is maintained in multiple genres. The reviews are spot on and the recommendation engine rarely disappoints.

Also, the Kindle application allows you to read on ANYTHING. Mac, iPhone, iPad, android, your TV if your so inclined via web browser. Syncing furthest read place between the devices with ease.

Book cost aside, I have been on the eReader train since 2005 on those old PDAs. The digital revolution caught me just as I was needing to move after college and allowed me to save at least $20 on the smaller Uhaul rental, since I freed up so much book space.

So, not only am I now saving $$ per month on books, I am saving $$$ on square feet that those books are no longer taking up. For avid busy readers this is a multi win offer.
